PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
This program prepares students to become employed as phlebotomist. Students acquire the knowledge and practical
skills necessary to work at hospital laboratories, blood centers, or other health care facilities drawing blood by
venipuncture and capillary puncture. This program also offers a career path to the Medical Assistant program where
the courses completed are accepted as transfer. Graduates of this program are ready for employment as soon as they
receive their diploma.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Students of this program receive 165 hours of instruction where they learn about safe and efficient work practices
in obtaining adequate and correct blood specimens, labeling specimens, transporting specimens correctly to the appropriate laboratory sections, quality and safety assurance; infection control guidelines and precautions; blood borne diseases, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and other diseases; legal and ethical responsibilities; anatomic structure and function of body systems in relation to the profession; communications skills and basic math calculations. Students receive 45 hours of lab practice to ensure each graduate is ready for successful employment.
CREDENTIAL AWARDED
Upon successful completion of the program students receive a diploma.
DURATION
The program has a duration of 165 hours. Students complete the program in 17 weeks, attending 10 hours per
week.
EMPLOYMENT
Graduates of this program are qualified to seek employment upon graduation.
